"It's gotten to the point where I can't stand my life anymore," Marcy said one morning at the water cooler at work. With her parents both alcoholics, life at her house could get grim. Now one of her co-workers spoke up: "What you need is church."
"Church!" Marcy said. "That's the last thing I need."
But a few days later, on Sunday morning when she heard the bell ringing at the church on the corner by her house, she hurried over.
"And church was exactly what I needed," Marcy told me. "That was thirty years ago, and it's made all the difference in my life--and that woman said only five words to me."
Sometimes we hesitate to speak up, but we don't have to make it complicated. Sometimes it takes only three words: "Jesus helps me."
