We've started a Wellness Endeavor at work. All participants pitch in $10; at the final weigh in on May 23rd, the pot is divided up to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place greatest percentage of weight loss. If you gain weight during the week, you have to put an extra dollar in the pot. The pot is $190 plus whatever dollars get added. First place is 50% of the pot, 2nd, 30% and 3rd gets 20%. Money will be motivating to me! I definitely want my ten bucks back, plus some :)

Everyone is sharing encouragement with healty eating and exercise. The contest is based solely on weight loss for simplicity, but it all works together.

I'm doing well with the eating. The exercise is more difficult. I enjoy walking at lunch, but all last week the sidewalks were a mess, and we had a couple of lunch events at work. I did walk indoors one day, and thankfully it wasn't too hot. I'm finding I'm getting more warm blooded in my old age (mid 40's), so it's almost unbearable sometimes to get that warm indoors. I carried 2 lb weights in each hand last week, and was surprised as how much more of a workout it was. I walk at least a mile when I do go. I am never motivated at home to exercise, but perhaps when we move and have more room, if I stick a treadmill in front of a TV, I'll do it more.

I'm counting on the stress and activity of moving to make me a champion this spring :)

I like the idea, of being motivated!! Way to go, Smiley, on the start of weight loss! Each pound lost, could be $$ gained, in your pocketbook!

Do you have a friend to walk with?

Are there any fitness classes on site? If not, is there a gym nearby you could join? YMCA? Just looking at options
for you..

Sometimes walk with others, which is very enjoyable, but I finally got an MP3 player for when I walk by myself; very enjoyable! There is a rec center on campus I could join, but I always want to scoot home right after work and don't like to go out again. Walking is definitely my favorite form of exercise, so I'll stick with that, and add the weights while walking.
