Starting at 3:00 this afternoon and over about an hour ago were 2 excellent movies with Burton and Taylor. I was mesmerized. They made some excellent movies together that as far as I know didn't get a whole lot of attention.
The Sandpiper also with Eva Marie Saint. A married Episcopal priest falls for a free-living artist. Real good and beautiful scenery, Big Sur in Calif.
That was followed by :
The Comedians with Burton, Taylor, Alec Guinness, Peter Ustinov, and Cicily Tyson with a small part.. It takes place during the Duvalier regime and has some historical accuracy. You get a good idea as to how unspeakably cruel his regime was. Maybe I was so absorbed because I lived in South Florida, so close. At the time I didn't see many movies, was involved with kids. Both movies had beautiful camera work and great scenery.
Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf... I think it's their best movie together and probably produced the best critical acclaim of their careers I think Taylor won the Oscar for it. Wonderful writing, wonderful acting.
