Stand your ground laws are not needed, if you are confronted you have some respncibility to retreat, until you or others are in grave danger. and unlike some on this site I wile take a knife to a gun fight!

Stand your ground does not mean pursue with a gun in order to provoke a fight.
Every one should be required to carry a gun on the hip in plain view. I bet everyone would start being polite and courteous.

Wyett Earp sayed a well armed society is a polite one, not sure I want all the guns tho, we are starting to see the whole gun thing get out of hand, we had a killing here in wisconsin just a few weeks ago very simmilar to this killing. the differance is a 20 year drunk kid is dead in a lilly white town, both shooter and vic, are the same color. the worst part is the cops were just a block away and the shooter knew it, but no charges he is protected by the new castle doctren, evern thoe the prosicuter would like to charge him.

I understand there have been 95 shootings under the stand your ground law with 65 deaths. Not sure if there is any information on whether these deaths were justifiable or not.

Many more guns were used for justifiable self defense than criminal uses Firearms are used defensively roughly 2.5 million times per year.

Retreating is not always the best option. Just as in the Castle Doctrine retreating is not always feasible.

Yet the NRA course on concealed weapons permit stated:

"A firearm is a tool of last resort. It is used only when deadly force is absolutely neccessary.
The best way to win a confrontation is to avoid a confrontation."

Law abiding citizens can and should use guns responsibly.

Also, crime fell in Florida since law abiding citizens were armed. Criminals fear an unpredictable encounter with an armed citizen.

if i read this correctly - it doesn't seem to back up your claims as to crime fell because law abiding people were armed.

Baxley said "Weżve had a dramatic drop in violent crime since this law has been in effect." His comments in television interviews implied the law itself reduced violent crime rates. There has been a drop, but rates were declining before the law went into effect. We found no proof that that the "stand your ground" law caused the drop in crime rates; some groups worry the law could lead to more violence. We rate his claim Half True.

Do not have a gun, do not WANT a gun, and I'll have a gun when someone puts it in my cold, dead hands.
