I am trying to find info on my great-grandfather born in Hanover,Germany(William Scharninghausen). I am trying to find info from the Lutheran parish records. I do not know which city or parish but I understand the records have all been consolidated in one library.Does the Lutheran church in the US have connections in Germany? I understand the LDS has not copied the records. I am looking for advise.
Hi Phyllis. One thing to keep in mind is that the records may not specifically indicate they are from a Lutheran church. In my own research on the LDS site, many of the Lutheran church records say Evangelical church. It is my understanding that is the name the Lutheran church goes by in Germany. I also have ancestry in the Hanover area. Paul DeBrodt
My wife's ggg grandfather Claus Scharringhausen came from the Hannover area. Family history said he came from the Osnabruck area which is located in Northern Germany near the village of Oldenburg.
I noticed that your William last name has a n in it. Hopefully they are the same.
If they are I have the info on Claus to the present.
Claus was born April 22, 1827. My e-mail address is email@example.com.
Hopefully this may help you out.
The Scharringhausen surname is found in the records of St. Marcus United Church of Christ, St. Louis, Missouri. The death records for 1880-1899 can be found on-line at: http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/Buecher6.htm
Other records for this church are also on-line. Please contact me if you have further questions. Bob Buecher, rgb7847@AOL.COM
I have the name and address of a private researcher in Hannover that I had do some work for me a while back. If you are interested in it, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll look it up for you.
If you know what village he was born in, the best place to go is the Meyers Gazetteer. (It's available online at ancestry.com, and also by flim/fiche from LDS family history centers as well as large genealogy libraries). Meyers lists all villages in Germany from at about 1913. Each village lists what disctrict it was a part of and consequently where civil records might be kept. It also indicates if the village had a parish, and what the name was. This can be helpful when looking for parishes on the LDS site. If not is may refer you to the nearest village that had a parish.
My great great grandfather, Saabe Tiden Lottman (LöTTMANN), was born in Hanover, Stadt Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany, on 22 March 1801 and died 17 Jan. 1877 in Peoria, Illinois. He married Susannah "Susan" Born (born 28 July 1824 in Hess-Darmstadt, Germany and died 16 Feb. 1900 in Peoria, Illinois) in New Orleans about 1841. I am looking for Saabe's parents' names or ideas on getting birth, baptismal records from Germany.
Any help would be appreciated!
