I am responding to the article in the Summer 2008 Thrivent Magazine, "Portrait of Community". The pantheistic and syncretistic mural on the Lutheran church in Danville, CA, which it described is a horrible blasphemy. Such a thing is totally unChristian, not to mention unLutheran. I heard this same sentiment from others before I even saw the article for myself. That this should be glorified the magazine of Thrivent Financial of "Lutherans" is also horrible. Is it to much to hope that at least no Thrivent matching funds were used for this project, lest any of my money found its way to this travesty. I usually put the latest issue of the Thrivent magazine in the literature rack in the narthex at our church, but I must reconsider this practice. This issue is certainly going straight into the trash. I ask that in the future the editors consider whether content in this magazine is apt to be offensive to those who still believe Lutheran and Biblical teachings. I think that an apology in the next issue would also be appropriate.
